Hi, I'm Julie.

I love working with natural yarns and creating pieces that capture the imagination and echo simpler times. Working with my hands to create something beautiful fills my heart, and I believe that love shows up in the work to make it special. From my heart to yours.

My obsession with fibre began over 19 years ago, when I first learned to knit. I loved the tactile nature of knitting and the connection I felt to historic traditions when I was working with my needles.

I was introduced to weaving in the spring of 2016; it seemed an obvious extension of my craft. I bought a 20inch x 20inch lap loom and began creating, experimenting and playing with yarn and other fibre materials in a whole new way. I weave from my heart, without a pattern in mind, and let one texture or colour lead me to the next.

For me, weaving is playtime and I am always trying to make something different or try something new in each piece I create.

Born and raised in Victoria, my inspiration most frequently comes from the beautiful surroundings we find here. Colour is always my jumping-off point. I rarely start out with an exact idea in my head when I begin working on a weaving. I start with a grouping of colours, textures and materials and I play! Almost all of the materials I use are sourced locally and I only work with 100% natural yarns, cottons and roving. Many of these yarns are hand spun and/or hand dyed, enhancing my artisanal one-of-a-kind pieces.

Currently a selection of my work is available for sale at the Amelia Lee Boutique on Yates Street in beautiful Victoria, BC.
